Pogo , popular 20th-century American comic-strip character, a cartoon possum who was the main actor in an often politically charged daily newspaper strip of the same name. Pogo Possum represented Everyman, though he was a classic comedic straight man among the denizens of Okefenokee Swamp , a community outside of Waycross , Georgia. Howland Owl; and others. Perhaps most notably, on several occasions he was pressured by his friends to run for president of the United States. For several years his standing was equal or subordinate to that of Albert Alligator. In , however, Kelly created a newspaper comic strip around the possum, and the following year Pogo received his own ongoing Dell title.

Created in "the throes of '60s and '70s counterculture ," [1] and frequently political in nature, Doonesbury features characters representing a range of affiliations, but the cartoon is noted for a liberal viewpoint. The name "Doonesbury" is a combination of the word doone prep school slang for someone who is clueless, inattentive, or careless and the surname of Charles Pillsbury , Trudeau's roommate at Yale University. Doonesbury is written and penciled by Garry Trudeau, then inked and lettered by an assistant: Don Carlton [3] then Todd Pound.





Bloom County is an American comic strip by Berkeley Breathed which originally ran from December 8, , until August 6, It examined events in politics and culture through the viewpoint of a fanciful small town in Middle America , where children often have adult personalities and vocabularies and where animals can talk. On July 12, , Breathed started drawing Bloom County again. The first revived strip was published via Facebook on July 13,
